School and Community Characteristics

Reynolds High School is a comprehensive, four-year public high school serving over 2,300 students in grades 9-12. Reynolds School District serves five smaller suburban towns in the Greater Portland metropolitan area. Reynolds High School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and is a member of the College Board. 95% of Reynolds High School students receive Free and Reduced Lunch. Reynolds prides itself in diversity, with approximately 450 students in English Language courses and over 50 languages spoken by students and families. The student population consists of 50% Latino/Hispanic students, 24% white students, 8% Black and African American students, 9% Asian identifying students, 5% Multiracial, 4% Pacific Islander, and 1% Native American/Alaska Native.

Academic Program

Reynolds High School offers a diverse program of studies for all students. Along with standard and advanced course offerings in the core academic subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, students can pursue areas of interest in Visual and Performing Arts, and Career Technical Education. Additional opportunities include:

Center for Advanced Learning (CAL): a partner charter school which provides high school students hands-on learning experience in CTE fields including medical, dental, apparel design, entrepreneurship, digital media, engineering, and manufacturing.
Middle College: a cooperative program between Mt. Hood Community College and Reynolds High School. The program allows RHS juniors and seniors to take a full-time, 12 credit, college course load at MHCC during the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. Students earn dual credit toward their high school diploma and their desired college certificate or degree.
Senior Inquiry: a dual credit program through Portland State University (PSU). Students are exposed to an academically rigorous course of study team-taught by Reynolds High School instructors and PSU professors. This is a two-period offering that will afford successful completers the opportunity to earn up to 15 PSU credits.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID): offered to students to support their four-year college readiness. Students learn academic preparedness, essay writing, and are prepared to apply to colleges and universities during their senior year. The AVID program serves around 525 students each year.

Graduation Requirements

Twenty-four credits are required for a Regular Diploma, one credit is one school year. Required credits: four credits of English, three credits of Math (Algebra 1 or higher), three credits of Science, three credits of Social Studies, one credit of Health, one credit of PE, three credits of CTE, Arts, Music, or World Language Electives, and six credits of General Electives. Additionally, students must complete the Personalized Learning requirement for the state of Oregon.

Transcripts and Grading

Reynolds requires students to complete 24 credits to graduate. Reynolds uses the traditional 4-point GPA scale, with no distinction for plus (+) or minus (-) grades. Weighted classes offered at Reynolds are listed in the table above and are marked with an H for Honors. Honors grades are calculated using the 5.0 scale. Reynolds provides both weighted and unweighted GPAs, but only weighted Rank. Additionally, CAL offers weighted classes, and any core classes taken through the Middle College program at MHCC are also weighted, electives are not. Students may earn an Honors Diploma by taking four or more weighted classes, earning a 3.5 weighted GPA or higher, and completing at least twenty-seven credits.

Enrichment Programs

Community Partner Organizations – RHS students receive support from organizations including African Youth Community Organization, El Programa Hispano, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization, Greater Than, Latino Network, Native American Youth and Family Center, and Self Enhancement Inc., and more.
Speech and Debate - Last year, the students won 46 awards including 2nd in districts and a state champion.
After School Programs – 25+ after-school clubs and mentorship opportunities are offered to students each year.
Theater Productions - Theater students compete in Improv Festivals, Regional and State Thespian Competitions.
Musical Productions - RHS choir program participates in district, league, and state competitions.

Class of 2025 Accomplishments

Over $33,000,000 in scholarships were awarded to the class of 2025. Scholarships awarded include: The Hagan Scholarship, Burger King Scholars, Harrington Foundation, Catalyst Scholars, QuestBridge, DreamUS National Award, GANAS Scholarship, The Renaissance Foundation, and The Dale Krueger Scholarship.
